The Great Utah ShakeOut

As many of you know, the state of Utah has organized a state-wide earthquake drill, scheduled on Tuesday, April 17th at 10:15 a.m. Here's some general information on the event, taken from the ShakeOut newsletter recently distributed:

 

A major earthquake happens on the Wasatch Front every 350 years. 

The last one: 350 years ago.  

Join us for the largest earthquake drill in Utah history.

We know a major earthquake would be disastrous. So, we study and plan and train. Now, it's time to practice.

On April 17th, the state of Utah will hold a statewide earthquake drill called the Great Utah ShakeOut. Government, voliunteer and public safety agencies, schools and businesses will practice their emergency plans. By practicing in a realistic scenario, emergency responders and managers will learn where improvements can be made.

We invite Utah individuals, families and neighborhoods to create and practice their own plans. Urge your parents, friends and bosses to do the same.

Be Ready Utah, the Deseret News and Emergency Essentials are partners inviting you to join in the Great Utah ShakeOut by doing a preparedness drill at 10:15 a.m. on April 17th.

Who's participating? 519,000 Utahns, including:

• Utah School Districts: Alpine, Box Elder, Davis, Granite, Jordan, Canyons, Nebo, Park City, Provo, Salt Lake, San Juan, South Summit, Tooele, Weber. Don't see your district on the participant list? Go to www.shakeout.org/utah to get registered.
• Over 50 businesses
• 11 Colleges and Universities
• 28 hospitals between Tremonton and St. George
• American Red Cross Utah Region
• Over 1,000 individuals/families
